Stretching along over 2000 miles it encompasses all possible climates, landscapes and cultures. Apart from the country’s archetypal points of interest: tango, soccer, beef and wine, there is a remarkable natural beauty which makes it the most diverse destination in the region, if not the world, while being more affordable than the USA and Europe.
Buenos Aires is a sizzling cosmopolitan city where passionate tango dancing has its home. The main museums have been restored since the 2010 anniversary of the first revolt against the Spanish colonial regime, and the city is becoming greener with new bike paths and free bikes available in multiple spots. Dining is a treat, with the best new world wines available in every restaurant, to go along with a wide variety of notable cuisines, ranging from the world renowned local parrillas, to French, Italian, Japanese, molecular, and vegetarian.
The Pampas region is famous for its gauchos — the argentine cowboys — and its flat plains are filled with the best polo horses in the world. Relaxing at one of the wonderful estancias and enjoying long asados after a morning ride is a delight.
The Northwest region is known for its deserted scenery and the vivid Incan legacy. While wandering in the little towns listening to its distinctive music and talking to the local people, it feels like time has stood still. The salt flats are a highlight of this region.
The Iguazu area, despite being a major tourist destination all year round, is still well worth a visit. The awe inspiring falls thunder in your ears, while around the falls nest hundreds of bird species and mammals in the lush vegetation of the national park. This trip can be combined with the Ibera wetlands, one of the largest water reservoirs in the world, and home to a very rich fauna, including caimans, capibaras, and jaguars.
The central Andes region of Argentina is among the top wine destinations in the new world. The highest peaks in the continent, which reach almost 23000ft, are located here and there are mountain activities for all.
The Lake district of Argentina is known for its hiking trails and beautiful pristine lakes and forests, but it is also a fantastic spot for fly fishing, kayaking, rafting, and golf. The main gateway to the region is Bariloche, which is located on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi.
Southern Patagonia is known for its glaciers and granite peaks where, with your crampons on, you can walk and even climb on the millenary ice. The East coast of Patagonia is the perfect spot for wildlife lovers, with whales, sea lions, albatrosses, ñandu (a type of ostrich), guanacos (a distant relative of camel) and thousands of penguins.
